Column Specs

We are looking for content for the following regular columns of Spark of Salem.

“Dish”
– Rather than writing a review of a local restaurant, we want a narrative tale of a “food related” experience in the Mid-Valley. We're seeking to capture the audience element in it; we want the story that goes with the meal.

“Beat” – We're steering away from reviews; (Read: no reviews) we're seeking stories about a local show, a local band or musician, album, or even something else entirely. If it’s about music in the Mid-Valley we want to hear it.

“Pulse” – Creativity exists in all facets in Salem or the Mid-Valley. We'd like to see the process, the product, the person. Celebrate the humanity of art. (No reviews.)

“Go” – If people in Salem and the Mid-Valley are doing it, we want to hear about it. Try to avoid the obvious things that get a lot of coverage in the other media outlets. Get a little below the surface. There may be some cross over with Beat or Pulse, but just write away and let us decide where it goes.

“Give” – Who in Salem works to make it a better place? Who's making a difference? and we want stories of them and/or their projects. High profle or not, whatever makes the community sparkle, this will be the story.

“Past” – We look to the shadows of the past to see what they can tell us about this place we call home. A creative story from the past, capturing the remembrance of a long gone event, person, place or thing. Remind us! We’ll fgure out the rest. Just write away, have fun with this one.

“Live” – There is something to be said about the experience of living in Oregon, and in this region, that is unique and different from elsewhere. This is a chance to delve a little deeper, esoterically, into the creative roots and write about what it means to live here in the great Northwest.
